Most people are not lonely, they are unwitnessed

The loneliness conversation is usually about frequency of contact, so the proposed fixes are all about more, more events, more messages, more community. But I know people with full calendars who feel completely unseen, and people who speak to three humans a week and feel held. The variable is not volume, it is whether anyone is keeping track of your life across time. Being witnessed means someone notices you are different this month. Almost nothing in modern life is designed to provide that, and no amount of events will substitute for it.
