Boredom is a skill and we are losing it deliberately

Every idea I have ever had arrived in a gap. A queue, a walk, the twenty minutes before sleep. Those gaps are now filled by design, because unfilled attention cannot be sold to anyone. I don't think the problem is screens exactly, that framing lets us off too easily. The problem is that we removed the conditions in which thinking happens and then acted surprised that nobody can concentrate. I have started deliberately being bored, no podcast on the walk, no phone in the queue, and it is genuinely difficult in a way that tells you something about how far this has gone.
